The European Commission has been working on producing a report on the
future of transport in Europe to 2050. This will be presented at a meeting chaired by the Vice President of the Commission in Brussels in March to what they call a high level stakeholder meeting, and following this will be a Communication, timetabled for April.

We have been involved in trying to ensure that arguments for sustainable transport based on public transport and walking, on integrated regional planning, have a fair hearing.

It is our intention to prepare a brochure outlining the arguments once the second draft has been produced, where we have failed to find our vision not fully represented.

We think that as an organisation you share our committment to alternatives to a future based on the domination of the private motor vehicle and might wish to be associated with our effort?

We are inviting you to agree to place your logo with a short statement of policy on the brochure. There is already a meeting at Chatham House on alternative future transport in March, clashing with the meeting in Brussels, but soon after that we will host a meeting for the partner organisations where we will describe the process that the Commission has developed, the outputs and outcomes, and how we see a co-operation of organisations which have an interest in green and smart transport systems being developed and promoted.

You might of course be already involved in the process or wish to ensure your own representation at the high level stakeholder meeting, but we would hope you would never the less be prepared to work with us on promoting a sustainable future for transport.
